If you are visiting Kaohsiung, you have to make a trip to Cijin Island. The island is a popular tourists’ spot and it is only a 10 minutes’ ferry ride from the main city. In addition to the food stands serving the local snacks, several seafood restaurants, pubs, dried good and seafood markets can be found throughout the island.
On the island you would also find a Tianhou (Chinese sea godess) Temple and a Presbyterian church, Ki-Au Presbyterian Church - 台灣基督長老教會旗後教會 founded by a missionary doctor James Laidlaw Maxwell , the first church in Taiwan.
With live bands performing on the weekends, the place would be transformed to an island carnival. If you are planning to visit Cijin Island on the weekend, you should make plan to get there early, as Cijin Island is also the locals’ favourite hangout for their weekends.
