Constructed in the 9th century and abandoned in the 14th Century, Borobudur is one of the very few remaining Hindu-Buddhism sites in Indonesia and it is also the largest Buddhist temple in the world. Its existence was brought to light in 1814 by Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles who was the British ruler of Java at the time.
Being listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Borobudur is Indonesia\'s most visited tourist attraction.
How to get there?
Located approximately 25 miles northwest of Yogyakarta, Borobudur can be easily accessed from this city. Yogyakarta is also equipped with a domestic airport; this makes this city an ideal stopover for the tourists who are heading for Borobudur.
