At the heart of Bangkok city, you will find the Grand Palace, which was built in 1782 and had been the royal government office and the residence for the Siamese kings and their royal families till 1925. Today, the Grand Palace is used for official events. Important state functions and royal ceremonies are held in the Palace each year.
The Grand Palace consists of several buildings and halls, including Wat Phra Kaew (Thai: วัดพระแก้ว means Temple of the Emerald Buddha) Thai’s most sacred Buddhist temple and Chakri Maha Prasat (Grand Palace Hall). Several halls of the Grand Palace are open to public.
Make sure you dress modestly. Visitors, who wish to enter Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), may not wear sleeveless shirts or shorts. Flip-flops are not allowed, unless visitors have their socks on.
