Sengaku-ji (泉岳寺) – 47 Ronins
Sengaku-ji (泉岳寺) is a Buddihist temple, near Sengakuji Station and Shinagawa Station of Tokyo Japan, is one of the most famous temples in Tokyo. In the temple, you may find the graves of Asano Takumi no Kami Naganori (浅野 長矩) and his Forty-seven Ronin.
After his failed attempt to kill Kira Yoshinaka, the hightest-ranking Koke (高家) at the time, Asano Naganori was sentenced to commit Seppuku (切腹). After Asano Naganori\'s death, his followers became Ronin. The 47 Ronin managed to avenge their master\'s death and committed the ritual suicide together. Based on this true story, many movies and TV series were made.
Today Sengaku-ji which hosts the graves of Asano Naganori and the Forty-seven Ronin is a popular site of the pilgrimage of many locals. To commemorate their honour, courage, and loyalty, the temple holds a festival on December 14 each year to honour these national legends.
