Musée du Louvre

Musée du Louvre (known as the Louvre), built by Philip II as a fortress, is one of the largest and most visited museums in the world. The Louvre was made a public museum during the French Revolution. In 1983, French President François Mitterrand proposed a major renovation for the Louvre and Ieoh Ming Pei, a Chinese born American architect, was awarded the project. The project, with a glass pyramid implemented, was completed in 1993.

The Louvre is one of my favourite museums and I always find time to visit this museum every time I hit Paris. Please note that admission is free on the first Sunday of each month. It, however, needs more than one day to see all the collections in the Louvre.
