Notre-Dame de Paris
Notre-Dame de Paris
Notre-Dame de Paris, also known as Notre-Dame Cathedral or Notre-Dame, is one the most well-known cathedrals in the world. It is also among the finest French Gothic architectures in the world.
Notre-Dame plays a very important role in the catholic church and it has a reliquary which is a home of some important catholic relics, i.e. a fragment of the True Cross, one of the Holy Nails and the Crown of Thorns.
Thanks to the famous French romantic novel, Notre-Dame de Paris (known as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame in English), written by the famous French author Victor Marie Hugo in 1831, Notre-Dame de Paris becomes one of Paris’ best icons known by most people around the world. Today, neither Quasimodo the Hunchback, nor Esmeralda the beautiful gypsy girl can be seen in Notre-Dame de Paris; the romantic air, however, can still be felt onsite.
