The Great Wall

When people talk about traveling to China, the Great Wall of China would probably be the No. 1 thing they wan to see. With the total length of 13,171 miles (21,196 km), built by Qin Shi Huang (247-210 B.C.) the emperor of Qin Dynasty, the Great Wall is considered one of the most significant ancient architectures remain today.
The part of the Great Wall at Badaling, just outside of Beijing, is the most popular part of the Wall visited by both the Chinese and foreign tourists. The Badaling Great Wall is divided into two parts, the North Wall and the South Wall. While the North Wall is longer, the South Wall is Steeper. If you are physical fit and you want to conquer both Walls on foot, you need, at least, 4 hours to do so. For those who are in hurry, or do not want to accept the physical challenge, cable cars are available to take you up to either Wall.
There is a Chinese saying that “You may never claim to be a hero, or a great man, till you climb up to the Great Wall!

How to get to Badaling?
You may take a train from Huangtudian Railway Station. The train would take you directly to the Great Wall at Badaling. The train fare is 7RMB one way.

How to get Huangtudian Railway Station?

Take Beijing Subway, either line 8 or line 13, to Huoying Station (霍营). Take exit G4 and follow the directions to S2 line till you arrive at Huangtudian Railway Station.

Seeing Great Wall by train.

Directions:
1. Take Beijing Subway Line 8, or Line 13, to Huoying Station (霍营站).
2. Follow the sign “S2 黃土店站 (S2 Huangtudian Station)”till you reach the Huangtudian Railway Station.
3. Take the train to Badaling Station, which should be the 2nd stop. The ride is about 1 hour and 20 minutes and the cost is only 7 RMB.
4. Badaling Great Wall entrance is only 5 minutes’ walk from the train station.
