Basilica of Győr, awarded by Pope John Paul II the status of Minor Basilica in 1997, also known as Győr Cathedral, is the seat of Diocese of Győr. This church was rebuilt in fifteenth century, after the original church was destroyed by Mongols in eleventh. The church interior was redesigned by the Italian master Giovanni Battista Rava in 1650.
Cathedral-Basilica of Győr is considered a major shrine of St. Laszlo, who was the King of Hungary in 1077 and King of Croatia in 1091. Laszlo was canonized as a saint by Pope Celestine III on June 27, 1192. The statue of St. Laszlo can be found just outside of the Basilica.
