Some things about the country Edit
Philippines Philippines, a Southeast Asian country, is made up of more than 7,000 islands. With Taiwan to its north, Vietnam to its west, Borneo and Indonesia to its south, Philippines is just situated on the north side of the Equator and has a tropical climate, basically hot and humid all year round. Philippines was a Spanish colony for more than 300 years. Spanish heritage can be seen throughout the country. Indeed, many Filipinos inherit Spanish names as their family names. During the Japanese occupation in World War II, USA was emerging as the dominant power in the country. After the WWII, USA continued to operate its military bases, both Navy and Air Force, in the country till the fall of Ferdinand Marcos. Due to its close political tie to USA, American influences and cultures can be seen in many parts of the country, i.e. Makati, Subic Bay and Clark. In addition to its official language Tagalog, English is widely spoken throughout the country. While Islamic religion is popular in the southern part of the country, 90% of its population is either Catholic or Christian. Philippines has so many islands and beaches, it is a great place for tourism. There are many beautiful beaches for vacationers throughout the country. Among these beaches, the best white sand beaches are in Palawan Island & Boracay. With the exception in the southern part of Philippines, most of the major cities and tourist attractions in the country are quite safe to its visitors.
